Hi, and welcome to Inkdrop Lit.
I’m Sarah Welch, and I’m so glad you’re here.
When I was a kid, when people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, my answer was always “a professional reader.” In those days, just about the only thing I ever got in trouble for was reading under the covers far past my bedtime, and I was an avid short story writer, foisting handmade “books” onto any adult who would read them.
Today, I have an MA in book publishing from Emerson College and a BA in creative writing and playwriting from Northwestern University, and I have the privilege of spending my time working with independent authors and publishers to turn initial ideas and first drafts into powerful books that will move readers. From fiction to memoir to corporate lead magnets, I’m passionate about helping writers tell their stories in the best way they can.
While my favorite part of the bookmaking process is the story, itself, my wide range of experience with several Chicago- and Boston-area publishing houses puts me in the unique position of being able to offer guidance on the entire publishing process, from the first draft all the way to the bookstore shelf.
I want my work with any author to be a collaborative, uplifting process that leaves the client feeling empowered, with a vision and a plan for how to take his or her manuscript to the next level. You can read more about my editorial philosophy here, but for now, here’s what you need to know: I have high standards, and I’ll shoot you straight, but my goal is to guide and inspire authors to meet those standards and create manuscripts they can be proud of. I don’t just want to make your book better—I want to help you become a better, more confident writer.
Every day I am honored, humbled, and amazed to have become exactly what my elementary school self wanted to be when she grew up, and I look forward to the opportunity to work with you on your next writing project.
